In 1981, John Williams became one of the first winemakers in Napa Valley to turn off the irrigation, till the soil, and trust the rainfall. Irrigation was new in the 70’s, but he turned back.

This forces the roots deep, which in wine language, is layered. Their philosophy begins with a simple idea: a grapevine is not separate from its surroundings. It responds to the angle of the sun, the temperature and moisture of the soil, the organisms beneath it, the insects around it, the birds and the changing seasons.

Thursday evening will feature a guided tasting of seven Frog’s Leap wines, paired with passed apps and four seasonal courses from Chef J. Jonathan Simpson.
